AION 2 beginner guide: your first hours
Pick a faction and class, learn flight, and build a safe first-session routine in AION 2.
Start here
AION 2 is a free-to-play online role-playing game with two factions, eight launch classes, flight, story quests, dungeons, and large group activities. The global Steam version launched on October 5, 2026. You can install it from Steam or use NCSoft's PURPLE PC launcher. Check the current store and regional notices before installing; account and service details can change.
Choose Elyos or Asmodian for the look and story you prefer. Both factions can play every class. If you are unsure, start with a class whose role sounds fun rather than trying to predict a permanent best pick: Templar and Gladiator fight up close, Ranger attacks from range, Cleric supports and heals, and the other classes offer distinct magic or hybrid styles. Learn one character first, then try another if the combat does not click.
What streamers do
The AION 2 Twitch category was among the most-watched game categories in the seven days checked for this guide. Current streams commonly give viewers a window into leveling routes, class builds, dungeon clears, gear decisions, and faction fights. NCSoft was also running a limited Halloween Twitch Drops event from October 28 to November 3, 2026; check the official Steam notices for the exact watch and claim requirements before counting on a reward.
Use a live stream to see movement and encounter pacing. Treat a build recommendation as one player's setup, not a universal rule: class, gear, party role, and the current patch can change what works.
First-session route
1. Finish the opening story steps until the game explains your class skills and core movement. 2. Put the main attack, defensive action, and movement skill where you can reach them without looking away from combat. 3. Complete the early faction and flight quests. Flight is part of movement and combat, so practice steering, turning, and landing before relying on it in a fight. 4. Follow the main story when you want a clear next step. When a quest sends you into a dungeon, read its entry conditions and try the first run with a group. 5. Before spending upgrade materials, compare the item you have with the reward and the next activity you want to unlock. Keep a few consumables on your quick bar.
Useful tips
- Learn the dodge or movement response for your class before chasing damage. Staying alive teaches more than restarting a long encounter.
- Keep the map open when a quest marker is unclear; use the in-game quest text as the authority for the next objective.
- Ask a party what role they need before joining a difficult group. A group that knows who is healing, drawing enemy attention, and dealing damage has an easier first clear.
- Check the current patch notes and in-game tooltips before copying a skill build from an older video.
- The game is free to start, but its store contains optional purchases. Decide your own spending limit before opening the shop.
Where to play
Install the free game from Steam or check NCSoft's PURPLE launcher and official game site. The regional launcher, account requirements, and store offers can differ, so confirm the current information on the official pages before creating an account.
